FUEL PRICE, WATER AND ELECTRICITY TARRIF INCREASE, EFFECT ON GHANAIANS.
themesAt this juncture when Ghanaians are faced with so many
challenges in economic and social life the government of the day is not
sympathizing with the citizens. Labelling this article or write up to the
opposition will the worse thing any person may do because this economic crisis
has been the headache of many Ghanaians as well and the need to be catered for.
We were informed of the automatic price adjustment formula on
fuel prices and Ghanaians as calm as we are accepted the assertion due to the
fact that this policy was to help developmental projects in the country. Not
too long ago the minister of finance, Mr. Seth Terkper went to parliament with
another policy which is the petroleum law and it was passed without a hinge.
Again, the price of fuel has increased in the country at a time that fuel price
has decreased at the world market and the question that is usually posed is
that, is the automatic price adjustment formula not working? If yes then why
the increase in fuel prices at 28%, water at 59% and electricity at 67%?
The funny aspect of this is that there is usually no increase
in salary of the worker and he/she is supposed to use the same salary to cater
for all those needs which is impossible. When this happens the Ghanaian is
forced to go extra mile to cater for these needs and this breed corruption in
the country.
The assertion here made is that as the fuel prices has been
increased against the reduction at the world market, prices of goods and
services are going be increased and standards of are going to be high and when
these happen situations are going to worsened and bribery and corruption will
be the goal of the day.
Notwithstanding the fact of the matter, in the whole of West
Africa, it’s only in Ghana that fuel prices are high making our economy more or
less the most expensive in West Africa. Aside these salaries remain the same
for the common citizen who is hereby supposed to use the same amount to cater
for his/her needs. Where and how exactly do the government want the average
citizen to cater for those needs?
