AN OPEN LETTER TO GHANA NATIONAL SERVICE SECRETARIAT

PLIGHT OF NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNEL Dear National Director, I am writing to bring to your attention the challenges faced by National Service Personnels (NSPs) and propose a solution to address them. While it is a source of pride for many Ghanaian youths to enroll in the national service scheme after completing their tertiary education, the reality is that this joy is often overshadowed by pain, agony, and stress. The scheme has remained unchanged since its inception, which gives the impression that the leaders of the nation do not care about the welfare of those who are mandated to serve the nation. This year's (2018/2019) national service has been particularly challenging, with the scheme trying to delete ghost names and prevent the "no allawa" syndrome that discredits the program. The registration process has also been more expensive than in previous years, which may discourage personnel from accepting postings to remote areas, especially in less developed districts
