BAGBIN VERSUS NDC: A MISFIT OR A HERO

HON. BAGBIN
The recent rant in the media landscape is very appalling and interesting. The matter of who leads National Democratic Congress (NDC) strengthens the saying “INTERESTING TIMES AHEAD.” Freedom of Speech is one thing that makes people who are less privileged to attain the height of Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin in terms of politics in Ghana to flood their social media handles and pages with insults relating to his recent comments on the appointment of certain members in the Mahama-led government.
Obviously, there is no member of parliament older than Hon. Bagbin in terms of parliamentary experience hence need to be taken careful in every speech and spill he puts across. Truthfully, his latest rant has caused what many will say an unfortunate attempt to discredit Former President Mahama on his third run as flagbearer for the NDC and put himself in a better position to lead them in the 2020 elections.
Ever since the second deputy speaker of parliament made his comment about the appointment of Hon. Dr. Seidu Daana, Dr. Omane Boamah and Okudzeto Ablakwa as a mistake that caused the defeat in 2016.
Dissecting and bisecting the issues and also critically criticizing the speech of the experienced lawmaker. Most people who have issues with the speech have raised better arguments in support of their dislike for the speech made by the Nadowli lawmaker.
First and foremost, it is believed that the speech was unfortunate, as a leading member of the opposition NDC who can influence decisions made by the party should not have sat apathetic for that to happen before making it public because of political ambitions.
Akans proverbial saying that “an elder who sits aloft for children to eat the meat of snakes is counted as a member of the partying group,” therefore when he claims these appointments led to the defeat of NDC then he is a cause and has no moral right to criticize such appointments. In regards to the appointment of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, I disagree in one bit because of the fact that within the ministry there are head of departments and directors and he is only but acting as a supervisor.
With those vilifying Hon. Bagbin, it is unfortunate they never understood him. He made a comment that most people within the party feared to make. On the appointment of Dr. Seidu Daana as Minister of Chieftaincy and Cultural, Affairs, though disability is not inability, I unanimously support such statement though many will say it is discriminatory against human rights. It is no hidden truth that in Ghana it is impossible for a physically challenged person to assume kingship or chieftaincy position in the country no matter high you are in academia and morality.  The appointment of the learned man was like an insult unto the traditional settings of the country though everyone has his or her own deficiency.
On the appointment of Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Deputy Minister of Education in-charge of tertiary education was very unfortunate. Some will say age matters not in governance but not in this matter as delicate as pearls of diamond. He defended the comment with evidence to prove that he did his national service in parliament in 2012 and was nearly rusticated though the honourable MP has stated that he was never and ever nearly rusticated from the University of Ghana. Let’s assume Hon. Bagbin had it right. What signal then was the former president sending out to the lecturers?
Those shouting crucify Bagbin were the same people who admonished Former President Mahama when Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa and Dr. Seidu Daana were appointed Deputy Minister of Education and Minister of Chieftaincy and Cultural Affairs, so where lies their fate and this has in all attest to the fact that Ghanaians like to talk but fear to act.
Critically analysing the statement in few words with comparison with Lionel Messi of Barcelona FC, it is understood that he is a great footballer but cannot be placed in the position of defence because he will perform abysmally as compared to his actual position of attacking midfield same with the appointments of these three appointees. Not that they are incompetent but their position of appointment was a mistake placement. It would have been better to place them in different jurisdiction either than were they were placed.
