GIJ SRC, A CANCER FIGHT AGAINST

themes

OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS THE STUDENTS OF GHANA INSTITUTE OF JOURNALISM MET WITH JOY WHEN TWO CANOPIES AND EIGHT WOODEN BENCHES WERE OUTDOORED  TO REPLACE THE STUDENTS' LOUNGE WHICH WAS BROKEN DOWN TO PAVE WAY FOR THE NEW BUILDING HOUSING STUDENTS AS LECTURE BLOCK.

THE FACT THAT THE STUDENTS ACCEPTED THIS DID NOT GO DOWN WELL WITH SOME OF US WHO SAW IT AS WASTED MONEY OF STUDENTS BECAUSE THE AMOUNT TO ME WAS BALLOTED BY THE EXECUTIVES OF THE BOARD.

IN MY QUEST TO SEARCH FOR  THE COST OF THESE CANOPIES ON THE MARKET I WENT STRAIGHT TO A ABOUT FOUR WELDERS  TO SEEK FOR A PRICE WITH THE CAPTION THAT I WANT TO BUY ONE FOR MY CHURCH WITH OTHER COLLEAGUES AND THE AMOUNT THEY GAVE ME WAS A THOUSAND TWO GHANA CEDIS AND TOLD ME IF I AM READY THEY COULD HELP REDUCE IT. UPON HEARING THIS I TOOK MY MIND BACK TO MY SCHOOL'S CANOPIES OF SAME CALIBER WHICH WAS BOUGHT AT A THOUSAND EIGHT PER ONE AND THOUGHT TO MYSELF WHAT PREVENTED MY GENERAL ASSEMBLY FROM THEIR BACKGROUND CHECK BEFORE APPROVING?

DESPITE THIS I WENT FURTHER TO QUESTION SOME G.A MEMBERS WHO TOLD ME THEY WERE UNDER DURESS TO APPROVE THE AMOUNT AGAINST THE WILL OF MOST OF THEM BECAUSE THEY SAW THE NEED TO DO SOME CHECKS BEFORE APPROVING THE BUDGET.

JUMPING STRAIGHT TO THE CORE OF MY MATTER IS THE FACT THAT THE LESS THAN A MONTH OLD CANOPIES HAVE BEEN LEFT UNCONCERNED BY THE EXECUTIVES OF THE SRC. I MADE AN ASSERTION EARLIER ON THE SRC FACEBOOK WALL THAT THE SO-CALLED BRANDED CANOPIES WERE DONE A TWO GHANA CEDI MARKER WHICH IS NOT THE BEST FOR A SCHOOL OF GIJ'S CALIBER.

IF I DO NOT CLOSE MY EYES AND SAY WANT I WANT TO SAY I WILL SAY THE SRC SQUANDERED OUR DUES THAT WE PAID IN THAT VENTURE EITHER KNOWINGLY OR UNKNOWINGLY. THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NOT SEEN THE STATE OF THE BRANDED CANOPIES THEY HAVE BEEN REDUCED TO WATER TANKS WHICH MAYBE I GUESS THEY ARE A DECORATION FOR THE ROMEO-LED ADMINISTRATION.

What happened to the branded canopies?
I was broken to the core today when upon reaching campus i saw the so-called branded canopies in a devastated way. The two canopies which cost 1,800 Ghana cedis each were relegated to the property of scraps as i will put it. I am surprise at the turn of events as those who defended the SRC in this have become dumb over time that they cannot talk about the current state of the so-called branded canopies. I can remember when i raised this allegation it was challenged that that was the actual price and that the even appeal for a reduction till that amount. Information reaching me shows that the G.A of the school were under pressure to approved that amount for the so-called branded canopies and benches which were written on by a 2 Ghana cedis permanent marker

I have waited too long a time to see if the SRC executives have seen the state of the so-called branded canopies but i can now believe that they have not seen. I want to tell them that the state of the their so-called branded canopies with 2gh marker writings on them are in a bad state and they should do well to work on it though they have wasted our money in this branding. I know i will be vilified by people i don't know if they are paid by the SRC but i have said the truth.

Someone somewhere may think i want fame but that is not the case here. My mission is to help correct the menace in the society. I write with no doubt that the SRC executives and the students who have seen the marker-branded canopies will testify that they are in the bad state. These are canopies that were branded with students' generated fund or dues and yet they have been left unconcerned. My question is, are those canopies water saving equipment or poly tanks or shades against sun as a replacement for the students' lounge?
