COLLAPSING THE POPULAR

Image
Every now and then things get amazing with the attitude and actions of people. Not long ago the former Minister of Energy, Hon. Boakye Agyarko went to parliament to mention names of towns that caused smiles on the faces of many citizens to the extent that some became greetings by certain section of the populace. What people did not know was the strength and vigour that these citizens attached to help them get enrolled unto the national electricity grid by the government. Despite these teasing attached to the names never made them to lose focus on the very core that bound them together as one people fighting for a common goal. What gets most people worried is the fact that you tell them a popular town of old has no proper facility to cater for its citizens and still spiritually attached to the old ways of believing in superstitious entities. It is by this that I am tempted to say there are no spirits hovering over the earth but the strings of attachment is what makes it psychological d

IN THE TEST OF TIME

I have been thinking aloud off late about this issue of economic hardship exerted on Ghanaians by successive governments with deceit that they are serving Ghanaians in the right capacity. Lest we forget that the lives of the people depends more on the development of the state and how bewildered the government will be in tackling issues of societal needs. My focus is on the current government and how pragmatic measures are been adopted in addressing the needs of the ordinary electorate on the street. Here we are people dying on the streets while the politicians get themselves and families’ goodies upon goodies and amassing wealth meant to service the ordinary citizens. I have come to understand that power seeking people do not have people at heart. If they do, they would not have allowed young and determined students to sit under undesirable and dilapidated structure to study. This does not even provide them with incentives that will boost their morale for effective teaching and learn

MISPLACED THOUGHTS OF POLITICIANS

AN OPEN LETTER TO GHANA NATIONAL SERVICE SECRETARIAT

PLIGHT OF NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNEL Dear National Director, I am writing to bring to your attention the challenges faced by National Service Personnels (NSPs) and propose a solution to address them. While it is a source of pride for many Ghanaian youths to enroll in the national service scheme after completing their tertiary education, the reality is that this joy is often overshadowed by pain, agony, and stress. The scheme has remained unchanged since its inception, which gives the impression that the leaders of the nation do not care about the welfare of those who are mandated to serve the nation. This year's (2018/2019) national service has been particularly challenging, with the scheme trying to delete ghost names and prevent the "no allawa" syndrome that discredits the program. The registration process has also been more expensive than in previous years, which may discourage personnel from accepting postings to remote areas, especially in less developed districts

THIRD COMING OF MAHAMA: GREED OR INSIGHT?

Image
Former President Mahama When the announcement was made that former president Mahama has declared his intention to run again as flagbearer for the main opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) and subsequently run for presidency, it dawned on many that he is becoming a person of greed and insensitive to the cry of the majority of citizens who voted him out of power during the 2016 general elections. I termed this the third coming of Mahama because Mahama won against President Akuffo-Addo and lost against the same person. If he emerges victorious in the internal elections of NDC, that will be the third coming. When many heard the intention or most appropriately the submission of his letter to the national secretariat of NDC, they tagged it insensitive or greediness on his part with others also tagging it as insightful because of his achievement in infrastructural development in Ghana. Delving into the matter of the third coming of Mahama, I take a double standard stanc

BAGBIN VERSUS NDC: A MISFIT OR A HERO

Image
HON. BAGBIN The recent rant in the media landscape is very appalling and interesting. The matter of who leads National Democratic Congress (NDC) strengthens the saying “INTERESTING TIMES AHEAD.” Freedom of Speech is one thing that makes people who are less privileged to attain the height of Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin in terms of politics in Ghana to flood their social media handles and pages with insults relating to his recent comments on the appointment of certain members in the Mahama-led government. Obviously, there is no member of parliament older than Hon. Bagbin in terms of parliamentary experience hence need to be taken careful in every speech and spill he puts across. Truthfully, his latest rant has caused what many will say an unfortunate attempt to discredit Former President Mahama on his third run as flagbearer for the NDC and put himself in a better position to lead them in the 2020 elections. Ever since the second deputy speaker of parliament made his comme

STATE NEGLIGENCE

Image
Whenever I walk through the streets of Ghana's capital Accra I count churches to the extent that I get tired and stop counting. My problem however is not with the number of churches but the number of energetic men and women found in the churches praying all times of the week.  CHURCH CONGREGATION This phenomenon has been prevalent throughout the fourth republic and maybe beyond. I do not blame them for being in the church everyday. Rather I ask why they are in the churches? They are there to pray for a breakthrough in their businesses, pray for employment and a cure to their sicknesses among many others. Why the church?  They choose the church because they have lost hope in the governments to be able to solve their problems. They tend to rely on the church with the hope of finding a remedy to their problems from God. The people's lost of hope in their governments is the reason why so many energetic men and women are found in the churches praying all day. The people&
